Reader: Access to oral chemotherapy is crucial

I recently had the opportunity to participate in a virtual meeting with Congressman John Moolenaar regarding patient access to care to fight cancer and other diseases. I thank Rep. Moolenaar for taking the time to speak with patient advocacy groups including the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association and American Lung Association and for agreeing to sign on to the Cancer Drug Parity Act.

As a cancer to my uncle and grandma, I can tell you it is critical during this pandemic to have access to oral chemotherapy you can take at home. The Cancer Drug Parity Act would help equalize patient out-of-pocket costs for oral chemotherapy and traditional intravenous (IV) chemotherapy.
