However, many cancer patients have insurance plans that charge them significantly more for oral chemotherapy drugs than IV chemotherapy.These drugs are not necessarily more expensive, but patients’ out-of-pocket costs for oral therapies are higher under these plans. The Cancer Drug Parity Act would require health plans to provide the same level of coverage for oral chemotherapy as they do for traditional IV chemotherapy. In order to improve access to care and lessen the burden on our health care system, Congress should include the Cancer Drug Parity Act in the next stimulus package.
